Installation guide



  1. Start the installation program and follow the instructions.
  2. Install the Java Runtime 7 or skip this point if it is already installed.
  3. Launch easytranscript.


Mac OS X

  1. Extract the file by double-clicking on it.
  2. Install the Java Runtime 7 or skip this point if it is already installed.
  3. Double-click the "easytranscript.jar" file to launch easytranscript.


Linux/Unix & Portable

To launch easytranscript extract the archive and launch the easytranscript.jar file.
Linux/Unix users have to install a Java Runtime with JavaFX in order to run easytranscript.
Not every distribution offers openjdk packages with javafx included, thus you may have to install the Oracle JRE.
If you do not know how to do that please read the section "Linux/Unix & JavaFX".


Optional Software

easytranscript is running better, if you install the VLC mediaplayer (windows only) and the Documentconverter Pandoc.
Both programs extend the list of supported file formats (VLC: media files, Pandoc: export-formats).


Linux/Unix & JavaFX

If you use ...

  • Ubuntu 14.04 or older
    Please upgrade your OS to the newest version of Ubuntu and follow the steps for Ubuntu 14.10.
  • Ubuntu 14.10 or newer
    Please follow these instructions:
  1. Install openJDK 8 andopenJFX:
    sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre openjfx glib2.0 libav-tools
  2. Set openJDK 8 as default:
    sudo update-alternatives --config java
    From the list choose java 8.
  • Arch Linux
    Please execute these commands:
    pacman -S jre8-openjdk
    yaourt openjfx

    Important: yaourt has to be installed. If you do not know how to do this, please follow these instructions:
